And that's a wrap! See you all next school year Southern Heights Family!

This week was one to remember at Southern Heights Elementary. On Wednesday, the graduating seniors of 2025 returned to the place where it all began, walking our hallways one last time and reminding us how far they’ve come. Then on Thursday, we celebrated a new beginning as our incredible 5th graders took the stage for their end-of-year promotion ceremony. Click on the link to see some of the photos from these great moments at SOH.

Back to Where It All Began 💛🦅
On day two of the HMS tradition of senior walkthroughs, HHS seniors returned to the classrooms and hallways of Heizer Middle School, and Will Rogers, Murray, Edison, and Jefferson Elementary Schools—places where their stories first started.
From crayons to cap and gown, it’s incredible to see how far they’ve come.
Teachers who once tied shoes and taught ABCs now cheered on soon-to-be graduates headed into the next chapter of life.
This week is more than a walk—it is a journey back through memories, milestones, and the mentors who helped shape our seniors.
The future is calling, but this week we pause to remember where the dreams began.⭐🦅

Captain Juan Contreras from Hobbs Fire Department Station Two and his crew came today to help Taylor Elementary students cap off their school-wide play day by getting sprayed by the fire hose! Hobbs Municipal Schools this week is doing various play days to cap off the end of a great school year for the students and staff.

From Little Eagles to Soaring Seniors!
It was day one of a week of seniors traditionally walking the halls of the schools in the district. These HHS seniors walked the halls of Coronado, Taylor, Stone Elementary, and Houston Middle School one last time—not as students, but as role models.
The same hallways where they once learned to read, tie their shoes, and dream big now echo with pride and purpose.
Younger students lined the walls with admiration, reminding us all that every journey begins with small steps.
To our seniors: your roots are here, but your wings will take you far.
To our future graduates watching today: your time will come before you know it!🎓

After decades of dedicating her heart, time, and talents to the students of Hobbs Municipal Schools, Ms. Rey is officially retiring.
She has spent her career not only teaching, but also caring, guiding, encouraging, and believing in every child who walked through her door. Her impact is immeasurable, and her presence will be deeply missed by students, families, and staff alike.
Thank you, Ms. Rey, for the love and legacy you leave behind. Enjoy your well-earned retirement—you will always be part of the Southern Heights family!

Please join us as we celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Heizer Middle School May 19th at 9 AM!
This has been a multi -year endeavor that is finally coming to fruition. We want to thank the NM Public School Facility Authority, the HMS FACT committee members, and of course the Hobbs community for supporting this project with the GO Bond election to update our facilities for the benefit of the students and staff within the district.
We are ALL Eagles and we hope to see you there!

Wednesday, May 7th is National School Nurse Day!
HMS joins school districts around the nation to celebrate the specialized practice of school nursing. This celebration recognizes the contributions school nurses make every day to improve the safety, health, and academic success of all students. We are so appreciative of our skilled school nurses that give compassionate care to our students and staff at HMS. Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week at Southern Heights Elementary!
This week, we are celebrating the heart of our school — our incredible teachers and staff! We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication, passion, and care they bring to our students every single day. To show just a small token of our appreciation, we kicked off the morning with a burrito bar to fuel their day and remind them how much they mean to our school community.

Houston Middle School, as part pf the Hobbs Municipal Schools district was recently recognized by Solution Tree as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community at Work® for its initial success in raising student achievement. Houston Middle School’s commitment to implementing the PLC at Work process has been a major contributing factor in making a visible, positive impact on student learning.
PLCs are schools and districts in which educators recognize that the key to improved learning for students is ongoing, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve those students. The three big ideas of a PLC call upon educators to:
1.Focus on learning
2.Build a collaborative culture
3.Create a results orientation
Responding to news of the recognition, Jon Gilcrease principal at Houston Middle School said, “Houston Middle School is proud to be recognized as a Promising PLC Practices School. This milestone reflects the dedication, collaboration, and relentless effort of our entire staff, who have worked tirelessly to build a culture focused on student learning and continuous improvement. Together, we are creating a stronger, more supportive learning community for every student.”

Principal Appreciation Day at Southern Heights Elementary
Today, we held a surprise assembly to celebrate and honor our incredible leaders, Dr. Phelps and Mrs. Everhart!
We came together as a school to thank them for all the hard work, dedication, and heart they pour into our campus, our students, their families, and our staff every single day.
The countless things they do never go unnoticed, and we are beyond grateful for their leadership and unwavering support. Southern Heights simply wouldn’t be the same without them!
Thank you, Dr. Phelps and Mrs. Everhart — we appreciate you more than words can express

Athough it was a special senior recognition night at the game, the remainder of the night didn't go as planned. Our team gave it their all but the Eagles got shut out by a tough Carlsbad team on Tuesday night at the Veteran's Memorial Complex.
Thank you to HMS PR Intern Corey Ogle for the video and NMTX Sports for the great photos!

✨ A Dream Realized ✨
What began as a quiet dream in the heart of HHS music student Julio Castillo—to bring music, friendship, and purpose together—became something extraordinary.
With passion, persistence, and the support of the HHS Music Dept, Julio helped form the New Beginnings Orchestra Club, a student-led movement rooted in hope and harmony.
Monday night, history was made. For the first time in over 50 years, the sounds of a student orchestra filled Tydings Auditorium once again.
Bravo New Beginnings Orchestra, this is Gold Standard!⭐🦅#studentcentered #service #thegoldstandard #thehobbsway #sustainablehighperformance #capacitybuilding #innovation
